HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. It encompasses all the systems used to regulate indoor temperature, humidity, and air quality.
At Gillani Heating HVAC, we recommend replacing your HVAC filters every 1 to 3 months, depending on several factors such as the type of filter you're using, the air quality in your home, and whether you have pets. Regularly replacing your filters is essential to maintain optimal system performance, improve indoor air quality, and extend the lifespan of your HVAC system. For households with pets, allergies, or a high level of dust, more frequent changes, possibly every month, may be necessary. If you're unsure about the best schedule for your home, our skilled technicians can provide personalized recommendations during routine maintenance visits. From repairs to installations and everything in between, Gillani Heating HVAC is here to ensure your comfort and satisfaction.
An energy-efficient HVAC system provides numerous advantages that can significantly improve your home comfort and reduce your energy costs. Here at Gillani Heating HVAC, we specialize in installing and maintaining high-efficiency HVAC systems that offer the following benefits:
1. Lower Energy Bills: Energy-efficient systems use less electricity compared to traditional units, which can lead to substantial savings on your monthly utility bills.
2. Enhanced Home Comfort: These systems are designed to maintain a more consistent temperature in your home, reducing hot and cold spots for a more comfortable living environment.
3. Environmental Impact: By consuming less energy, efficient HVAC systems help reduce your carbon footprint, making them a more environmentally-friendly choice.
4. Improved Air Quality: Many energy-efficient systems come equipped with advanced filtration options that can significantly improve indoor air quality by reducing allergens, dust, and other contaminants.
5. Longer Lifespan: High-efficiency systems often experience less wear and tear compared to standard models, potentially extending the lifespan of your HVAC unit and reducing the frequency of repairs.
6. Rebates and Incentives: Investing in an energy-efficient HVAC system may qualify you for rebates and tax incentives, further lowering the overall cost of upgrading.
At Gillani Heating HVAC, we not only provide top-tier HVAC installation services but also offer expert advice on how to maximize the efficiency and longevity of your system. From routine maintenance to complete system upgrades, we’ve got you covered.
A MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating measures how effectively an air filter can capture airborne particles. The rating, which ranges from 1 to 20, is set by the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) and helps determine the filter’s efficiency in trapping contaminants.
MERV Rating Breakdown:
• MERV 1-4: Basic filtration; captures large particles like dust, pollen, and carpet fibers. Used in residential window AC units and pre-filters.
• MERV 5-8: Medium efficiency; traps mold spores, pet dander, and finer dust particles. Common in residential HVAC systems.
• MERV 9-12: High efficiency; captures finer particles like auto emissions and some bacteria. Used in hospitals and high-quality residential systems.
• MERV 13-16: Superior filtration; removes bacteria, smoke, and fine particles. Found in commercial buildings and hospital surgery rooms.
• MERV 17-20: HEPA-level filtration; captures viruses, carbon dust, and ultra-fine particles. Used in cleanrooms and pharmaceutical facilities.
Which MERV Rating is Best?
For residential use, MERV 8-13 is ideal, balancing filtration and airflow efficiency. Higher MERV filters (above 13) may restrict airflow if the HVAC system isn’t designed for them.
Yes, smart thermostats can be a valuable addition to your home's heating system, and there are several reasons why you might consider installing one. Smart thermostats offer the convenience of controlling your HVAC system remotely through a smartphone or computer, allowing you to adjust the temperature settings even when you're not at home. This can lead to increased energy efficiency and lower utility bills, as you can program the thermostat to reduce heating when it's not needed and ensure a comfortable temperature when you return.
Furthermore, smart thermostats can learn your schedule and preferences, automatically adjusting the temperature to optimize comfort and efficiency. They also provide detailed usage reports, giving you greater insight into your energy consumption and helping you make informed decisions to improve efficiency.
At Gillani Heating HVAC, we believe in leveraging technology to provide the best possible service to our clients. Our experienced technicians can help you choose the right smart thermostat for your home and ensure it is installed correctly, optimizing your heating system's performance. 7 Things to Check Before Calling a Furnace Technician
If your furnace or cooling isn’t working the way it should, don’t panic—there are a few simple things you can check before calling a licensed technician. You might be able to solve the problem yourself and save time and money. Here are 7 things to inspect:
1. Check the Thermostat Settings
It may sound basic, but it happens more often than you think. Make sure your thermostat is set to “Heat” or "Cool" and the temperature is above for heating or lower for cooling than current room temperature. If it’s unresponsive or acting erratically, your thermostat might be faulty and may need to be replaced.
2. Ensure the Furnace Switch is ON
Look for a switch near your furnace—usually mounted on the wall or unit. It can resemble a light switch and may have been turned off accidentally. Flip it to the ON position.
3. Inspect the Furnace / Air Conditioner Breaker or Fuse
Locate your home’s electrical panel and find the breaker labeled for your furnace. If it’s tripped (in the middle position), turn it fully OFF and then back ON. If your system uses a fuse and it has blown, replace it with one of the same size. Repeated issues may signal an electrical problem that requires professional attention.
4. Check the Furnace Filter
A dirty or clogged filter can restrict airflow and cause your furnace to shut down. Inspect your filter and replace it if it’s visibly dirty or hasn’t been changed in a while.
5. Clear Snow from Exterior Vents
High-efficiency furnaces have intake and exhaust pipes that vent outside. After heavy snowfall, these pipes can become blocked, causing the furnace to shut down. Clear away any snow around the vent area to restore proper airflow.
6. Ensure Access Panels Are Properly Reinstalled
After changing your furnace filter, double-check that all access panels are securely reattached. Some furnaces have safety switches that prevent operation if the panel isn’t correctly in place.
7. Check for Obstructed Airflow
Make sure no furniture is blocking air vents or returns. Also, ensure that all supply registers are open. Poor airflow due to blockages or a clogged filter can cause your furnace to work inefficiently or shut down.
Still Having Trouble?
If these steps don’t solve the issue, it could be a more serious problem that needs professional diagnosis.
